The Carnival of Education, and citronella.

The latest Carnival of Education is up, over on NYC Educator's great blog. Click on over and read every word. Remember, if you don't keep up with what's going on, you won't KNOW what's going on. I think you'll see some people you know on there this time, too.

On the home front, I'm now covered with mosquito bites. I was only out on the deck for a few minutes this evening, too.

Lighting the citronella candles to keep away the mosquitoes.

They do work, but only AFTER they're lit. In that split-second before the flame takes hold and starts to melt the wax, anybody out there is bug-bait.

I hate that singing sound they make, right in my ears. It's as if they are mocking my pain, turning my pain into an insect opera with an unhappy ending.

Die Skeetermaus. Madame Moschetta. Dido and Anopheles. The Flying Itchman. Der Ring des Nibelonmyskingen.

I suspect that over this past winter, my sweat somehow evolved into a substance containing biting insect pheromones, and that all I have to do is step outside for a moment and every bug in the vicinity know it and comes buzzing my way, stingers ready.

Perhaps some government somewhere would be interested in buying it, by the ounce. Start bidding, gentlemen.
